About Casey

Hello!

I'm so glad you're here!

I'm Casey Crookston, author of the book The Byte Guide, and creator of this website.  At my current job I manage a team of awesome software developers. During my twenty years in this industry, I've been an independent contractor, an entrepreneur, and an employee of companies both small and large.

With a bachelor's degree in Art History and a minor in Film, my path into this career has been non-traditional.  What started as a hobby eventually became a career, and everything I know about writing code is either self-taught from books and online tutorials, or learned on the job.

Why I Created The Byte Guide...

As a manager of a software development team, I know the challenge of recruiting qualified developers. The shortage of people who know how to write code is a growing problem, and my goal is to promote software development to anyone looking for a rewarding and fulfilling career.

When I'm Not At Work...

In addition to being a husband and a dad to three awesome kids, I'm also a weekend shutterbug, an occasional golf hack, a six-time marathon finisher, and a published author. In addition to the book The Byte Guide, I've also had articled published on photography websites, and I've written technology articles for my local chamber of commerce magazine.
